چکیده

The normal range for aortic root diameters employing the echocardiographic continuous recording technique was determined in 159 adult subjects without aortic valve disease or hypertension. In order to evaluate the accuracy of this noninvasive technique, the aortic root diameters as measured by ultrasound before operation in 31 patients with aortic valve disease were compared with their respective aortic annulus diameters as determined at the time of valve replacement. The 159 normal subjects consisted of 78 men and 81 women whose ages ranged from 18 to 74 pears (average 38). The normal range of aortic root diameters in this group was 17 to 33 mm (mean 23.7). A significant difference (P is smaller than 0.001) in aortic root diameters existed between men and women which could not be explained by differences in body surface area. The mean diameter among the 81 women was 22.4 plus or minus 3.3 mm(I SD) compared to the mean diameter in the 78 men of 25 plus or minus 3.5 mm. These results indicate a normal range for aortic root diameters which is significantly lower than previously reported. The aortic root diameter which was measured reoperatively by ultrasound in the 31 patients with aortic valve disease averaged 25.1 plus or minus 1.9 mm and did not differ significantly from the actual aortic annulus diameter of 25.5 plus or minus 2.6 mm measured at the time of surgery. The aortic root measurements by echo were within 2 mm of the corresponding annulus diameter in 25 of the 31 operated patients (80%).

Assessment of the aortic root using real-time 3D transesophageal echocardiography.

BACKGROUND Precise evaluation of the aortic root geometry prior to transcatheter aortic valve implantation is important for procedural success in patients with aortic stenosis (AS). To determine the potential for 3-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (3DTEE), the aims of the present study were: (1) to assess the accuracy of 3DTEE measurements of the aortic root using multidetector comp...

Quantitative Analysis of Aortic Valve Stenosis and Aortic Root Dimensions by Three-Dimensional Echocardiography in Patients Scheduled for Transcutaneous Aortic Valve Implantation

Accurate assessment of the aortic valve area (AVA) and evaluation of the aortic root are important for clinical decision-making in patients being considered for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Real-time three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (RT3D-TEE) provides accurate and reliable quantitative assessment of aortic valve stenosis and the aortic root. We performed tw...

Localized Aortic Root Dissection Secondary to Contrast Agent Injection: Feasibility of Conservative Follow-up With Echocardiography

Introduction: Iatrogenic aortocoronary dissection (ACD) is a nightmare in interventional cardiology. Although ACD is rarely reported, the real-world prevalence is suspected of being higher due to unreported cases. The right coronary artery (RCA) ostium is involved in the majority of cases, and dissections are usually limited to the aortic sinus in half of the clinical presentat...

Human tissue valves in aortic position: determinants of reoperation and valve regurgitation.

BACKGROUND Human tissue valves for aortic valve replacement have a limited durability that is influenced by interrelated determinants. Hierarchical linear modeling was used to analyze the relation between these determinants of durability and valve regurgitation measured by serial echocardiography. METHODS AND RESULTS In adult patients, 218 cryopreserved aortic allografts were implanted with t...

Aortic root geometry in aortic stenosis patients (a SEAS substudy).

AIMS To report aortic root geometry by echocardiography in a large population of healthy, asymptomatic aortic stenosis (AS) patients in relation to current vendor-specified requirements for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). METHODS AND RESULTS Baseline data in 1481 patients with asymptomatic AS (mean age 67 years, 39% women) in the Simvastatin Ezetimibe in AS study were used. Th...
